MOSAIC

Cooperation with Mediterranean Partners to build Opportunities around ICT and Societal and Industrial Challenges of Horizon 2020.
Starting date: 01/01/2014

The MOSAIC project aims to foster R&D cooperation between Europe and Mediterranean Partner Countries under European and third country programmes. MOSAIC focuses on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and how ICT can support common EU-MED societal challenges among which are Health and Wellbeing, Food and Agriculture, Clean Energy, Green Integrated Transport and Risk Management for critical issues such as Climate Action and Secure Societies.

In order to strengthen cooperation between EU-MED stakeholders MOSAIC will set-up sustainable mechanisms between European organisations and Mediterranean organisations, MOSAIC proposes the creation of 2 Technology Platforms (TPs):

  • MED-TP1 covering Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya).
  • MED-TP2 covering Mashriq countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria).

MOSAIC will fulfil the following objectives:

  • Analyze potential areas of cooperation between Europe and MED countries around the thematic area of ICT applications of ICT to Societal challenges.
  • Identify key stakeholders to launch and run TPs in MED countries including representatives from industrial (large companies and SMEs) and academic sectors.
  • Promote and support the creation of TPs in MED countries, including the production of a Vision document and Strategic Research and Innovation Agendas, as tools to set up sustainable scientific cooperation with Europe.
  • Create a Global Strategy for EU-MED cooperation in the field of ICT and ICT applications to Societal challenges.
  • Liaise MED-TPs with European counterparts, and contribute to update the European International Cooperation strategy.

ClusMED

Reinforcement of ICT Regulations and ICTs for tackling Societal Challenges links in Europe and Mediterranean countries.
Starting date: 01/01/2014

The ClusMED project aims to contribute to strategic cooperation and to the setting up of a permanent dialogue between European and Mediterranean countries on regulatory issues in the ICT sector as one of the key drivers of sustainable and inclusive growth. Even though Mediterranean countries have successfully mainstreamed ICT as part of their national development strategy, a detailed analysis is still needed on the specific Regulations on ICT in support of Societal Challenges to ensure the effective deployment and use of ICT for the benefit of citizens and enterprises.

Within this scenario the ClusMED project will support the following activities:

  • Mapping of National ICT Regulations with a focus on ICTs in support of Societal Challenges in the following MED Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia)
  • Analysis of the ICT regulatory landscape, challenges at country and regional levels
  • Benchmarking with European countries experience and identification and dissemination of best practices and lessons learnt
